Below is some advice from the AA for you Battersea People when it comes to driving in snow like we’ve had of late. If you need to see a garage, bear in mind Battersea Autogas and Curling Garages Ltd.

The former provides service and offers LPG conversion to help you save energy and money, while the latter services and repairs most cars and specialises in Land Rovers.

When driving in snow and ice:

... stopping distances are ten times as long • ... you should start your car in first gear

... apply brakes gently

Other things to think about:

Antifreeze

The AA recommend a 50-50 mix of antifreeze and water in the cooling system during the winter. This provides protection even when the weather is at a freezing -34° centigrade. Without it, you could damage your engine which would cost hundreds of pounds. Should the fan belt continuously squeal when the engine starst, then the water pump, and perhaps the cylinder block has frozen. Stop the engine and allow the thawing process to take place – this could take up to seven days unless you move the car to a garage.

Vision

The low sun may dazzle you in the winter time – ensure your windscreen is clean. If your screen has greasy stains on it, mix some dishwasher powder with water and dip your tissue in to clean it. A dirty screen or one covered with stickers could result in a fine as not being able to see properly dangerous (obviously)

Tyres

It is advised that tyres have at least 3mm of tread during the winer. You may want to look into having a higher silicone in the tread which gives more grip in cold conditions.
