Students may have to pay fees of about £7,000 to go to university in the future, following a report into higher education funding by Lord Browne. This is more than double what they pay now. How does everyone feel about this increase? Fair or not fair?

Schools, the NHS and International Development have fared well... but there have been lots of cuts. People must be worrying about their jobs. Anyone out there worried about their jobs?

I think £7,000 is ridiculous. It was ridiculous for me to pay £3,000 a year as a student; I had less than ten hours' worth of contact time a week, and just 20 weeks of tuition. Even taking off a thousand pounds for administration, that's £100 per lecture. Everyone should have the opportunity to go to university, but perhaps if they educated us properly in schools, not everyone would have to get a degree to compete for a dwindling number of jobs. I feel sorry for those who study vocational degrees and will never see a return on their investment. I feel equally sorry for those who would have liked to study purely for the pursuit of knowledge. Apparently, knowledge is a luxury reserved for those with rich parents.

That should say per week. It's a good thing I didn't study maths!

Eek! Just read university tuition fees are going up to £6k, some as high as £9k!! http://tinyurl.com/2388q6g

As for the jobs thing, as an MA student, I'm definitely worried about the jobs climate.
