Wandsworth's longest serving councilor Maurice Heaster wins award

Wandsworth's longest serving councillor has been honoured for his stewardship of the council’s finances at a national award ceremony.

Maurice Heaster picked up the award for "Outstanding Contribution to Financial Performance" at the annual Councillor Achievement Awards on February 8th. The event is organised by the Local Government Information Unit (LGIU), and sponsored by CCLA. It recognises the top performing local councillors across the country and the effort that they put into serving their communities.
Cllr Heaster was first elected to the council 42 years ago and currently holds the post of deputy leader with responsibility for finance.
He has played a leading role in shaping Wandsworth Council which has the lowest council tax in the country.
Cllr Heaster said: "I'm extremely honoured to receive this award which is testament to the dynamic and imaginative approach to finance that runs right through Wandsworth Council.
"A relentless focus on improving our services, reducing costs and challenging the existing way of doing things is the bedrock of our success and the key to keeping council tax low."
