The historic Castle pub on Battersea High Street could be torn down.

The developers owning the land it's on want to replace it with flats, and a planning application has been submitted.

A pub spokesperson said: "If you haven't already heard, we are sorry to inform you that Languard Investments Ltd, the development company which owns the land the pub is on, has submitted their planning application to Wandsworth council. This application states the intention of the developers to completely teardown/demolish The Castle and replace it with an apartment block.

"Wandsworth Council will accept comments and objections for 21 days after the application has been logged, but the earlier they receive them the more weight they will carry. If you care about your "local" then please help us by submitting a comment online, or writing to the council direct."

The pub is holding a rally this Tuesday to urge the council to keep it open.

The pub says MP Jane Ellison and some councillors will be amongst those attending the rally.

Battersea People will be there from 19.30 on Tuesday evening. Will you miss the pub if it's torn down?
