Is Battersea a posh place to live? Check out new statistics...

The Family Investments website has collected data informing us how cost-effective living in different parts of the country is. And one could argue the statistics suggest Battersea is posh. People living here earn more than the average, while a two-bedroom property is more than double the price of the average.

Is Battersea posh?
I've been racking my brain as to why Battersea could be seen as posh... we've got iconic sites like Battersea Park and the Power Station... we're close to London... you can get a good state education in Battersea, although it's arguable that the schools in the area aren't as renowned as those in Surrey like Tiffin.
Here's what @MFM_Wandsworth tweeted at me...
MFM_Wandsworth Balham_mummy @BatterseaPeople I don't think it's universally expensive (by London standards). Expensive areas match the catchments for good state schools
Over in SW12 - Balham territory - houses are a bit cheaper, although they're still way above the national average. And Balham doesn't have the number of attractions that Battersea has... so is the proximity of both places to Central London the main factor in what makes it expensive living around here? And do you think prices here will go up when the tube link comes to Battersea?

nice to see you defending your hometown! But I do think Battersea is slightly more glamorous... what do other people think?

ReportHello Batterseapeople. In many ways Balham beats Battersea. We have great transport connections with both overground train and northernline tube. Battersea just has the overground. We don't have Battersea Park and the river but Balham's inbetween three 'Commons'. Tooting, Wandsworth and Clapham - with Wimbledon and Streatham a mere stone's throw - spoilt for choice for open spaces! There's the 'outstanding' Chestnut Grove School right in the centre of town. Our 'Estates' are well managed and low on crime. I'm talking the Weir Estate, here. We don't have the BAC, but we do have drama from the excellent Southside Players and cinema at The Exhibit plus live music and comedy at The Bedford. We've got Waitrose in the town centre and a plethroa of excellent cafes and restaurants and well below national average scores on empty shops on the High Street. What is more, we have our own, self-appointed Mayor - the venerable Arthur Smith. So, it's all good in Balham!
